Home Improvements: Essential Oil Diffusing

Diffusing essential oils is an easy and effective way for your family to enhance your work, play, and sleep. You can quickly fill a room or your entire home with lovely, aromatic molecules by diffusing essential oil particles into the air.

When used in a diffuser, essential oils are transformed into microparticles that can be inhaled through the nose. Once inhaled, the oils begin to take effect in a matter of minutes. Just by breathing in diffused oils you can improve your concentration and creativity, de-stress and unwind your mind, and relax into deep sleep.

Hospitals are beginning to harness diffusing technology to improve staff welfare. Vanderbilt University Medical Hospital's emergency department took the lead in forming an aromatherapy pilot program aimed at lowering the staff's stress, increasing energy levels, and minimizing the typical hospital smell. They began to diffuse oils throughout the department to increase atmospheric oxygen, naturally clean the air of microbes, bacteria, mold, and viruses, and inhibit bacterial growth by increasing ozone and negative ions in the air. The hospital staff reported feeling less frustrated and less tired.

Here are 5 reasons why my family diffuses essential oils in our home:

1. Focus and Concentration
Diffusing essential oils improves concentration during tasks that require extended periods of focus. When we are working together as a family, we love diffusing frankincense and lemon for energy, fresh peppermint for focus, and honey myrtle for endurance.

2. Energize and Inspire
As modern life gets busier, more digital, and more stationary, remembering to move our bodies for optimal health is super important. Diffusing energizing essential oils is a wonderful way to motivate your family to get moving. The lively fragrances of thyme linalool, grapefruit, cedar, lemongrass and eucalyptus stimulate you out of feeling sluggish and will inspire you to get grooving.

3. Relax
Some days it feels impossible to unplug. Spending too much time on mobile phones, computers, and other devices can cause fatigue, anxiety, nervous tension, and exhaustion. Improve your digital-detox and reform your relaxation techniques by distilling super soothing oils such as lavender, mandarin, vanilla, marjoram, or Roman chamomile.

If your children (or you) resist relaxing at bedtime, try diffusing a few drops of bergamot, marjoram, or spikenard during your bedtime routine.

4. Deep Sleep
Beauty sleep is no myth. Sweet and deep slumber is essential for radiant health and happy relationships. Diffusing essential oils in the bedroom can sing you a sweet lullaby for the best sleep ever. Try a few drops of lavender, thyme linalool, and vanilla.

5. Cleansing Breaths
In the winter, we love diffusing camphorous “deep breathing” oils. These warm, potent oils revive breathing and encourage for deep, effortless breaths: inula, eucalyptus, rosemary, and ravensara.
