For over thirty years, we have followed the scent trail and nurtured deep-rooted relationships with the artisan distillers and family farmers who till the earth to create the pure ingredients and authentic essences we decant into our Libations. This provenance of purity starts in the richness of organic soil where every raw material is traced and tested for the purity of its resonance. We follow it from the seed in the soil to the oil arriving at our door, bringing it home to the Hive of our Headquarters—our sunny sanctuary nestled within the forested highlands where we compose and pour. THE CREATOR: NADINE ARTEMIS

Nadine Artemis is the creator of Living Libations and the author of two foundational health books: Holistic Dental Care: The Complete Guide to Healthy Teeth and Gums and Renegade Beauty: Reveal and Revive Your Natural Radiance. Her pioneering protocols and research in oral health have been integrated by dental practices, with her book now published in five languages. Renegade Beauty has been hailed as the “Beauty Bible” and named one of “The Top 10 Books on Skin Care” by The Strategist of New York Magazine.

A botanical formulator and media contributor, Nadine’s innovations have received acclaim in the New York Times, Vogue, and The Hollywood Reporter. Described by Alanis Morissette as “a true-sense visionary,” Nadine formulates elegantly effective, pure solutions that optimize oral health, awaken the skin’s inherent glow, and replenish the body's resonance. THE ORIGIN: HOW NATURE FOUND HER

Yet, the OG biography begins long before the books and bottles. It began in the early whisperings of childhood, where on long summer days, Nadine found herself immersed and endlessly enchanted by the beauty of the natural world.

There once was a girl with a wild look in her eye and a smile that reached the peak of her cheek. She cleaned up nice, though her dress was a mess, her pockets full of forest finds and acorns, and she always had that one curl that longed to unfurl. One day she sat, hands in lap, at the dining room table tuning in and out of the murmuring grown-up din. The raspberries gathered earlier that day had stained the fingers of her imagination, and with a rosy glow, she gazed out the window and saw friends of branches and birds sway, beckoning her foray. So, without a sound, she slipped off her shoes, and her feet whisked her away to the woods to play. Entranced by the galaxy in a patch of grass, she daydreamed and wondered, "If every flower was a flask of fun? If petals were spoons for pouring forth perfume? If the sky is a great pantry filled with ladles of moonbeams and goblets of sun? If bark is the bottle of a tree that holds the secret sap for a scraped knee?" And so she asked on into infinity. She swished bottles and mixed brews and wished to adorn everyone with garlands of nature. This is the story of how nature found her—and how you found your way here.

FROM SCIENCE FAIRS TO THE ALCHEMY OF ANTIQUITY

These botanical inclinations led to natural innovations—the creation of organic beauty balms, reviving elixirs, healing oral care, and perfumes composed with a pure poetry that satiates the senses of those yearning for botanical beauty.

The first sparks of her craft percolated during a high school science fair project, when Nadine mixed flasks of essential oils to recreate Nina Ricci’s L’Air du Temps. By eighteen years old, the world of aromatic essences had enraptured her, especially as she sought to escape the petroleum-promised-land of synthetic ingredients bursting out of every beauty bottle. Her university years were steeped in a deeper calling. She wrote to distillers to find new scent horizons to inhale and spent her days divining and recreating recipes found in 18th-century alchemical texts and the foundational works of Avicenna, Valnet, Arctander, Gattefossé, and Guenther. Compelled by the fragrant textures and ingredients of antiquity, she sought out rare florals and ingredients to compose concoctions of ancient unguents—like Balm of Gilead and balsamic Kyphi—seeking to catch a whiff of what life was like with these ancient aromatics. 

Gathering goods from far and wide—then melting, pouring, distilling, and decanting—she mortared resins of Frankincense with the green notes of Galbanum and Douglas Fir to roll incense, and brewed medicinal balms of Myrrh, scar healing salves with sandalwood, sleeping potions with spikenard, scalp cleansers with chamomile, and circulatory tonics with Cypress. Stirred by this poetry of plants and the scented stories written on the walls of the universe, she sought to understand monoterpenes and inhale the molecular mantras that have mesmerized for millennia, preparing to bring that interstellar frequency into the heart of every formulation. 

THE OSMOSIS ERA

These aromatic-apprentice years culminated in 1994, when Nadine opened North America’s first full-concept aromatherapy store: Osmosis. It was a sensory portal in the heart of the city—a place where people would stand in the doorway on their way to work just to catch a "whiff of relaxation".



The boutique was a scent-salon of liquid-intelligence. At the back of the store sat the legendary Oil Bar, a glistening mosaic, aromatic-altar holding hundreds of organic essential oils with a menu that offered rare essences by the drop and personalized perfume creations. People would drop into this salon for the ambient aromas and to converge in conversation with others who shared similar passions. As visitors "pulled up" to the scent bar, Nadine met and matched people with essences; it was a living lab that offered a frontline education in the health needs of the era and understanding the efficacy of each oil’s molecular intelligence.

These encounters left a lasting aromatic imprint, giving rise to hundreds of scented stories: of blending a Jasmine perfume for Aaliyah’s sweet sixteen, pouring pints of Patchouli preparations for Van Halen, and enjoying laughter and rootsy-racine blends with Sass Jordan. It was here that a midnight rendezvous with Alanis Morissette unfolded into a fragrant feast until the early morning hours. To this day, Alanis still has bottles of Osmosis oils in her scent library that smell as lovely as the day they were poured.

During these years, the boutique also served as a launchpad for a deeper mission. Nadine traveled to meet her distillers, taught workshops on practical health and beauty arts, from skincare, mixing medicinal blends, and the art of perfumery to essential oil protocols for pregnancy and family healthcare. She spoke at conferences alongside essential oil pioneers such as Dr. Kurt Schnaubelt, Robert Tisserand, and Dr. Daniel Pénoël. 



LIBATIONS LEGACY ERA

Then Nadine met Ron. This union crystallized a cosmic communion. Some nights they would stay up till dawn, imbibing essential oils, enjoying elixirs, and sinking into a world of luscious libations. It was within this connection that the vision for Living Libations was forged: a plan to bring these botanical treasures (and themselves) back to the land, deeper into nature, and build a foundation for the next generation of creations and formulations. 

So together, they took to the woods.

Over the next two decades, nestled within the forested Highlands, many Libations were made, endless ingredients explored, and new formulations poured forth. They contributed to the nascent days of biohacking and longevity conferences, introducing protocols for the microbiome in oral health and skincare before they were common concepts.

It was in this era that Nadine’s foundational books were written and Libations formulations evolved into a complete ecosystem of restorative essences and replenishing elixirs designed to tune the senses to the adventure of living. Today, Ron and Nadine continue to create and innovate from their woodland haven alongside the entire dream team that is Living Libations. Amidst this botanical legacy, they have nurtured their most cherished creation: their son, Leif.
